About Us
As a licensed physical therapist and licensed massage therapist, I am an expert in the John F. Barnes' Approach to Myofascial Release. This approach addresses pain, emotional stress, and physical restrictions by treating the cause of what is bothering you. A partial list of conditions I work with include: neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, whiplash, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, motor vehicle, work, and leisure accidents, physical and emotional trauma, TMJ, and scar tissue adhesions to name a few.
Fascia, once thought to be only "packing material," is in fact one of the most important tissues in your body. It is a continuous fluid filled connective tissue that surrounds every structure and cell in your body. When we are traumatized through falls, MVA, emotional distress, inflammation, accidents, and other injuries, fascial restrictions can create a tensile strength of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch of pressure. This is the equivalent of two full-grown horses standing on a nerve.
Because none of the fascial restrictions show up on standard tests such as x-rays, MRIs, or CT scans, the root cause of your pain and restriction may be overlooked.
During treatment, I will take a history, including present and past injuries and symptoms, assess your posture, and use my hands to provide a gentle, sustained stretch to the barriers I feel in the fascia. Because the fascia is a continuous web, you might feel pulling or pain in an area far from the site of your pain.
By releasing restrictions, which can take several hour to hour-and-a-half sessions or longer, the fascia becomes healthy again, returning from a crystalized back to fluid, and nutrients and information can again move throughout your body.
