Join the fifth annual Dine Out for Ukraine on Thursday, July 23, and support both local restaurants and life-saving humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Boulder participants include Cafe Aion, Blackbelly Market &amp; Restaurant, Brasserie Boulder, Jax Fish House &amp; Oyster Bar, West End Tavern, Centro Mexican Kitchen, Santo, The Post, Velvet Elk Lounge, Pica's, and Hapa Sushi. Additional participating restaurants can be found throughout the Front Range and across Colorado. Simply dine at a participating restaurant, and a portion of the day's proceeds will benefit Sunflower Seeds Ukraine, a Boulder-based nonprofit delivering medical aid and humanitarian assistance directly to people in Ukraine.

Boulder JCC (Boulder Jewish Community Center)

Gillian Perry was the Co-founder and, for 26 years, the Executive Director of the Anne Frank Trust United Kingdom. Through her work with the Trust, she had the opportunity to meet people who knew Anne. Gillian will share the story of Anne’s life, including her family's background in Frankfurt and their flight to Amsterdam after the Nazis took power.
This lecture also covers the remarkable story of how Anne’s magical thread has woven itself around the world. From the hard-fought publication of Anne’s diary in 1947 (and how it so nearly didn’t happen), to the creation by Otto Frank of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.
Gillian's talk will be appropriate for adults and children 12+. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring the next generation.

Join us for a special evening featuring Samira Mehta in conversation with Rabbi Ruth Gelfarb, Congregation Har HaShem. They will engage in an in-depth discussion of Mehta’s compelling new book,&nbsp;"God Bless the Pill."
In&nbsp;"God Bless the Pill", Samira K. Mehta&nbsp;traces the remarkable story of how mid-twentieth-century Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish voices promoted the use of birth control and made it more accessible for many Americans. They hoped birth control methods would curb divorce rates by encouraging sexually dynamic marriages and families unstrained by “too many” children—thereby creating a postwar upwardly mobile middle class.
Most people today understand contraception as central to women’s liberation, and when the birth control pill arrived in 1960, the media thought it would usher in a sexual revolution. But a surprising number of religious Americans in the mid-twentieth century also saw contraception as part of God’s plan—a tool to create happy, prosperous American families in the post–World War II era.
Samira K. Mehta is associate professor of women and gender studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she also serves as the director of the Program in Jewish Studies.

Rosanne Cash is a composer and singer-songwriter who has earned 4 Grammy Awards and 14 Grammy nominations, among numerous other accolades for songwriting and sound recordings. She is also an author, whose 2010 memoir Composed garnered widespread praise from critics and landed on The New YorkTimes bestseller list. In addition, she is a music community catalyst who often brings together giants of American roots music for various events and is a valued voice in documenting modern music history. DakhaBrakha is a music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine. Their “ethno chaos” sound spans years of performances prior to Russia’s 2022 invasion, but war is in everything now. They masterfully blend Ukrainian traditional music with influences from around the world, resulting in an unexpected new music.
Traditional music has seen a resurgence in Ukraine over the past decades, after being suppressed during Soviet rule. DakhaBrakha uses Ukrainian polyphony as its foundation, interweaving complex rhythmic and melodic structures from India, Arabia, Africa, and Australia. Their music is textural, layered sounds with distinctive percussive heartbeats, thumping bass lines, distorted electric guitars and influences of jazz, spoken word, rap and even punk. DakhaBrakha calls this tapestry of influences “ethno chaos.” And this chaos is a strength, allowing them to draw in strands of music that connect Ukraine with the world.
They are troubadours, activists and educators. Though their name means Give-Take in the old language, DakhaBrakha is new Ukraine, both pre-colonial and post-Soviet, working within a global network of art and music. Join us at Boulder Social for Live Music on the patio with Bill McKay Trio on Thursday, July 23 from 6-9PM, during our Summer Music Series.
Bill McKay began his musical journey at the age of six, taking classical piano lessons and singing in a church choir as a boy soprano. In high school, he studied jazz theory and ear training, and sang in the choir and barbershop group, touring in England, Wales, and Amsterdam. Bill began playing rock and roll in bars and clubs at the age of 16 with various bands. As of 2021, Bill plays with Steely Dead - a fusion of Steely Dan and Grateful Dead music, as well as the Very Jerry Band, focusing on the music of the Jerry Garcia Band and associated projects. Bill plays occasional gigs with The Other Brothers, an all star lineup of phenomenal Colorado musicians playing the music of the Allman Brothers. Proud to be a part of the Colorado music scene for 30 years, Bill McKay keeps moving forward in his pursuit of musical adventure!
