Here are the top stories in Boulder today:
- City of Lafayette has year-round water restrictions, will other municipalities follow suit? Last June City of Lafayette announced their plan to limit water use across the city, focused primarily on outdoor consumption, the looming question is when will the rest of the region get on board with dealing with water conservation? - Boulder Reservoir closes swim beach. A toxic algae bloom has formed in the Boulder Reservoir. Fortunately the closure is limited only to the swimming area. Boating, waterskiing, fishing, and picnicking are still allowed (FOX31)
- First official cases of Monkeypox arrive in Boulder County. According to the Colorado Department of Health and Environment, as of Aug. 8, four individuals have tested positive for the monkeypox virus in Boulder County. It's a rare virus that does not easily spread between people with casual contact. (Longmont Leader)
- Scientists want to rebuild a support network for wolf and beaver populations on public lands. Creating a Western Re-wilding Network could help re-establish a host of important ecological processes across the West. The proposed network would include federal lands in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. (CU Boulder)
- South Park creators have spent a ton of their own cash trying to revive Casa Bonita. Nearly a year into their purchase of the iconic Casa Bonita, Trey Parker and Matt Stone acknowledge that they had no clue what they were getting themselves into when they bought it, but they confirmed that they've got the resources to see the project through. - Sugarloaf Road will be closed beginning Aug. 12. Access on the road will be limited Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Aug. 12 to Sept. 9. There will not be access to the main Boulder County Parks & Open Space Betasso trailhead during these times. (BOCO)
