The new Arapahoe Avenue underpass features safety and accessibility improvements to encourage greater use of the underpass in line with the community’s Transportation Master Plan and Vision Zero goals. Improvements include enhanced sight lines and lighting as well as a wider and less steep path than the previous underpass, making it now compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The new underpass is also designed to be less-flood prone, reducing the likelihood of closures, the city said.

The project is partially funded by the 2014 voter-approved Community, Culture and Safety tax and is part of the larger Arapahoe Avenue Reconstruction Project, which is in its final stages.
