BOULDER, CO — Paid parking will return to Boulder Monday as officials continue to assess safety measures under Boulder County's 'safer at home' phase. Boulder drivers can expect parking incentives and more on-street parking enforcement, officials said. There will be a 20 minute grace period for curbside business pickup and takeout in support of the local economy.

Most city buildings will remain closed to the public and non-essential staff until June 1 amid the coronavirus outbreak. Parking staff will continue to monitor safety violations in fire lanes, fire hydrants, open space trailheads, driveways, loading areas and lines of sight, officials said.

Short-term free parking in the city’s downtown parking garages will continue to be allowed through Sunday night. Overnight parking — between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. — is not allowed, and violators will be booted or towed and charged, officials warned.  Neighborhood Parking Permit zones will be enforced.

Parking in the city garages, which has been offered at no charge since city offices closed March 16, will also return to paid parking Monday, with special rates through June 30 as an incentive, officials announced. The hourly rate of $1.25 per hour is the standard and is capped at $8 per day maximum (normally the rate increases after four hours of parking to $2.50 per hour). Free short-term parking in the city’s downtown parking garages will continue through Sunday night, with no overnight parking allowed.

Incentives for parking in city garages downtown:

New weekday parking rate of $1.25 per hour with no increase to $2.50 per hour after four hours of parking, and a daily cap of $8 per day.

• The $3 from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. flat rate on weekdays continues.

• Free parking in the garages on weekends and holidays continues.

The city’s parking and access office, at 1500 Pearl St., will reopen for in-person customer services — new permit purchases, renewals or refills — when some city offices reopen to the public June 1, and staff will follow the Safer at Home operating guidelines from Boulder County Public Health. Until then, customers can send messages to staff who are working remotely, who will try to accommodate service requests virtually or temporarily extend accounts, officials said.

Community vitality staff continue to provide maintenance and access services throughout the garages and are coordinating with contractors for construction projects at the 1100 Spruce, 1500 Pearl and Randolph Center parking garages, officials said.
