Here are the top stories today in Boulder:
- The mighty Colorado River is the most endangered river in the U.S. The river is at the epicenter of the nation's water and climate crisis, as the conservation group, American Rivers, ranks it this year's most endangered. With more than 20 years of record-breaking drought conditions – those that rely on the water from the river are now faced with a series of tough choices. (CPR)
- Red Flag warning issued for Metro Denver and Boulder. The National Weather Service has issued another wildfire warning for today to limit outdoor burning and activities that could produce a spark. Critical fire weather conditions across lower elevations are expected, as relative humidity of 10 to 20 percent coincides with wind gusts between 25 to 35 mph. (Patch)
- Erie's growth putting pressure on schools. Both Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts are feeling the pressure as new housing projects sprout up. With more kids that space, the district are scrambling for solutions. (Yahoo)
- A new reality in Boulder – year-round fire season. Dry conditions continue to set the table for another devastating fire like the Marshall fire, and now those displaced from that fire are looking for longer term solutions as they try to re-build their homes, and their lives. (Sierra Club)
- Climbing areas set to reopen after annual closures. Several climbing areas in Boulder Canyon on U.S. Forest Service land were temporarily closed for public access in an effort to protect golden eagles during their nesting period. These areas close each year to allow the birds to choose nest sites. (CO Daily)

From my notebook:
Prevention programs contribute to declines in alcohol use among college students. First-year students are particularly vulnerable, but there is clearly a need for more effective methods to reduce risks of underage drinking and alcohol abuse. (Science Direct)
