  1. Edie Hooton's departure from her state representative role has several Boulder City Council members eyeing the slot. Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett and Councilmember Junie Joseph are expected to jump into the race to represent the Boulder at the state capitol, after Hooton's announcement that she's dropping out of the District 10 race.   2. Beloved teacher killed in plane crash. Boulder High School teacher Dan Zahner and his father-in-law, James Holland were killed in a small plane crash in Nebraska, as they were flying from Greeley to Iowa on July 25. (FOX31)
  3. State of Colorado says $750 refund checks are in the mail. State officials say they're printing checks now, and over the next several weeks, millions of Colorado taxpayers will be receiving their $750 TABOR refund checks. (7News)
  4. Prairie dogs getting relocated as new apartments are set for development in Gunbarrel. The current inhabitants of 10 acres of land near Celestial Seasonings in Gunbarrel are being relocated. The project was approved by Boulder City Council last summer, and will deliver 230 new apartments on Spine Road. (Yahoo!)
  5. Turning a ski area green. As warmer temperatures and drought threaten snowpack in the West, Copper Mountain in Summit County is taking on climate change by turning its ski runs into carbon sinks. (CO Sun)
