Here are the top six stories today in Boulder:
- Residents feel 'lucky' with what they have, but those that lost their homes in the Marshall fire are struggling to figure out the future. With thousands displaced, many Louisville and Superior residents worry that they won't be able to find any housing in the area to accommodate them, and for so many families with school-aged children, finding affordable housing in the same school district will likely be a challenge. - Let the water wars begin - Nebraska plans to spend $500M to claim water from Colorado. Nebraska is planning to invoke its rights under the South Platte River Compact. This is in response to Colorado's plans for the river, that could reduce water flows into Nebraska by as much as 90 percent – impacting the state's agricultural industries, as well as water supplies in Omaha and Lincoln. - A ski resort in Aspen finds a solution in tiny homes. Aspen Snowmass, the town's largest employer found a solution for hard-to-find housing options for its workers by building tiny homes. (Insider)
- Merrell to donate $25k to Boulder County Wildfire Fund. The Wolverine World Wide-backed brand announced today won't be attending the Winter Outdoor Retailer trade show at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver that's scheduled Jan. 26-28 – in part due to the increased infection rate of COVID-19. Instead, Merrell is focusing their resources on helping those impacted by the Marshall wildfire. (Footwear News)
- Ski documentary tells story of ski race staged just weeks after Germany surrendered in WWII by the 10th Mountain Division ski troops. "Mission Mt. Mangart" will be screened at the Boulder Theater on Jan. 12th. The film is written, directed, edited, and produced by CU Alum Chris Anthony. (Cimone2000)
