Dougherty Picked For Boulder DA; AG Campaign Still 'Suspended'
Hickenlooper picks JeffCo prosecutor Michael Dougherty to serve Boulder DA Stan Garnett's remaining term.

BOULDER, CO -- Jefferson County prosecutor and Boulder resident Michael Dougherty was picked by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper to serve out the term of Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett.
Garnett is stepping down at the end February to take a job at his old law firm.
Dougherty threw his hat into the ring for the district attorney position, and was one of two finalists, the other being Mike Foote, a deputy district attorney in Boulder and a state legislator representing east Boulder County.

Dougherty had been one of several Democrats in a crowded field running for the 2018 statewide attorney general race in the primary. His campaign is "suspended," according to campaign aides.
"Right now Michael is focused on the transition process and we will address the campaign later on. He is committed to the office and hopes to be Boulder County's DA for many years," spokesman Daniel Aschkinasi said in an email.

Dougherty will need to run for re-election to the DA's seat in the Nov., 2018 election.
Democrats who remain in the AG race are: Joseph Salazar, Brad Levin, Amy Padden and Phil Weiser. GOP 18th District DA George Brauchler is the only Republican running.
