Here are the top stories in Boulder today:
- Boulder acreage filling up with Prairie dogs. Boulder's Open Space & Mountain Parks indicate that there has been a widespread expansion of prairie dogs in Boulder, to almost 5,200 acres – a new high. (Yahoo!)
- Western states using cloud seeding in hopes of refilling reservoirs. Cloud seeding typically involves loading up a plane with silver iodide flares. When the plane reaches an altitude where temperatures are ideal, the pilot shoots the flares into the clouds, which releases the silver iodide. This causes individual water droplets within the clouds to freeze together, forming snowflakes that eventually become so heavy that they fall. (CNBC)
- New wildfire team readied for the next wildfire. Since the Marshall Fire, both the City of Boulder and Boulder County have built a team that's prepared in the event of another wildland fire. (Reporting Lab)
- Colorado struggles to keep up with air pollution permits. The state's Air Pollution Control Division continues to fall further behind in when it comes to issuing permits that limit the pollutants companies can put into state air. This despite additional dollars pumped into the agency from state legislators in 2022. (CO Sun)
