Former Boulder Soccer Coach Sentenced To Prison

BOULDER, CO — A former youth soccer coach in Boulder will serve time in prison after he pleaded guilty to the sexual exploitation of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He will also have to complete court-mandated treatment sessions and register as a sex offender.

Philip Peters Hufstader, 36, was sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday, the Daily Camera reports. He was also sentenced to three years of parole and 10 years of sex offender intensive supervised probation.

Police charged Hufstader in 2017 for having a sex with a 15-year-old girl after finding thousands of text messages and photos they sent each other.

The girl, now 17, and Hufstader argued that their relationship was consensual; however, Boulder Deputy District Attorney Michael Petrash provided evidence that the former coach was a predator who used his position to manipulate the teen.
