Here are the top stories today in Boulder:

  1. Will free transit actually improve air quality in August? As proposed, a bill moving through the Colorado legislature would give RTD $11M, but the transit agency would only use the grant funding to provide free transit in August, not the entire summer ozone season. (CPR)
  2. Boulderites had mixed feelings about NCAR fire evacuation notices. There was lots of anxiety as the NCAR fire started to spread, even survivors of December's Marshall fire were on pins and needles as more than 20,000 people were evacuated out of South Boulder. (CBS4)
  3. Permanent daylight saving time is a really bad idea. One group isn't opposed to locking the clock, they just think that locking it in the daylight saving mode is bad for humans. (CU Today)
  4. Heavy snow that fell earlier this year wasn't enough to stop NCAR fire. Despite large snow falls since the first of the year, the NCAR Fire spread fast in the dry terrain. Even with all the recent moisture, the fire season in Colorado is turning into an annual ordeal. (9News)
  5. Community Foundation lays out plan for distributing the rest of the Marshall Fire funds. The money raised through raised through the Boulder County Wildfire Fund, and the organization that collected it, has detailed how it plans to distribute the remaining $28.5 million in disaster relief.
