Freeze Ahead: First Warning Of The Season From Weather Service

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for tonight, but Boulder County workers are ready.

BOULDER, CO - The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Boulder County area, beginning at 6 p.m. tonight and lasting through 10 a.m. Wednesday. "The coldest temperatures can be expected in areas with the least cloud cover," explains the Weather Service on its website, but temperatures are expected to dip below 32 degrees across the entire Front Range region.

With the first real freeze of the season, it's important to pay attention to the pitfalls that come with the extreme temperatures: watch for frozen pipes and garden hoses, avoid damaged plants if possible, and be sure take care of your own personal safety. "These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation," warns the Weather Service. "Cover [plants] with layers of blankets and drain outdoor above-ground sprinkler systems."

In Boulder County, authorities don't expect public works trucks aren't to be necessary this week, but they are using the shift in weather as a chance to plan ahead, according to a report from the Daily Camera. "We've been fine-tuning our routes, making sure we have enough deicing material and preparing the trucks for snow removal," Callie Hayden, Boulder transportation maintenance supervisor, stated in a press release. "We're not expecting a lot of snow this week, but whatever happens, we're ready."
