Horse Euthanized After Fall On Boulder Trail: Sheriff
A spooked horse threw a rider and ran away, falling into a deep hole, from which it could not be rescued, authorities said.

BOULDER, CO -- A horse that stumbled off of the trail Saturday in a riding accident near Boulder Creek had to be euthanized, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said.
Two riders from Lakewood were riding their horses on the lower loop of the Walker Ranch Loop trail, when one person's horse was "spooked" for an unknown reason, and threw off his rider, a man age 42, a statement from the sheriff's office said. The horse ran away up a steep incline and then fell about eight feet into a hole, landing on its back and side, the sheriff said. The rider thrown from the horse was uninjured. Emergency personnel worked for more than five hours to try and rescue the injured horse, but could not do so. The horse was put down about 11 p.m.
Deputies have concluded that the incident was the result of an accident, not any type of criminal conduct, and no charges will be filed, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
