Here are the top stories in Boulder today:
- Colorado has fallen way behind on air quality and monitoring air pollution. Advocates across the state are calling on Gov. Jared Polis to "go further, faster" in an effort to combat climate change and dealing with the state's severe air quality issues. (CO Newsline)
- Social media post leads to climbers getting stuck on Flatiron Number 2. Experienced climbers recount harrowing experience getting stuck on an icy rock in Boulder in 2021. Social media is a lot of things but one thing it shouldn't be, is a place to accept triple-dog dares. Climbers should take weather conditions into account, along with skillset, experience and mental ability before going literally out too far on a ledge. (Outside)
- Colorado ramping up plan to deal with housing and homelessness. Colorado is planning to pour $650 million into homelessness over the next year by using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Nearly two-thirds will go toward housing and the rest will fund homeless services campuses. Its a big number going into a problem that needs a lot more zeroes attached to it. (News Break)
- Despite the zoo's best efforts, several birds have tested positive for avian bird flu. Caretakers at the Denver Zoo have been keeping a watchful eye on their birds since the avian bird flu started spreading earlier this year, but the zoo is now reporting that xx birds have tested positive and are taking additional steps to protect other susceptible birds.
