  1. Sheriff Joe Pelle retires this week after 20 years as the Boulder County Sheriff. First elected in the fall of 2002, Sheriff Pelle has served a total of 43 years as an officer. A service celebration at the Boulder County Fairgrounds is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10. (Left Hand Courier)
  2. Huge line forms in Superior as BBQ as business reopens a year after Marshall Fire. Wayne's Smoke Shack reopened last Friday in Superior, and by 6 a.m., people were already in line to support the owners after a year of struggles to get the community favorite reopened. (9News)
  3. University of Colorado researchers create a new tool that helps us better understand climate change. CU researchers have developed a sensor that can accurately measure how sunlight interacts with the Earth's surface. The breadbox-shaped sensor, known officially as the Climate Absolute Radiance and Refractivity Observatory Pathfinder, is set to be launched in December of 2023, and will be attached to the International Space Station.   4. Boulder's Main Library will fully reopen on Monday. The City of Boulder says it is reopening the Main Library on Monday, Jan 9., though not with public access to restrooms. The building was closed on Dec. 20 when testing revealed that there were high levels of methamphetamine contamination. (Boulder Public Library)
