Man Who Died After Boulder Traffic Stop Identified

A man who died after his car was pulled over was "in extreme emotional distress," according to a missing persons alert.

BOULDER, CO — A man who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a traffic stop Monday has been identified. Kevin Flecha, 25, of Las Vegas, was in "emotional distress," according to a missing persons alert found by the Boulder Daily Camera.

"Unfortunately Keven was located deceased," Nevada's Red Rock Search & Rescue said in a Facebook post that included the Las Vegas police bulletin. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

An officer stopped a vehicle with a possible stolen license plate in the 2800 block of Moorhead Avenue at 5:30 a.m. Monday, police said. After the vehicle stopped, the officer heard a gunshot and called for backup.

A reverse 911 was sent to 229 homes within a five-block radius advising community members to shelter in place.

Boulder Police SWAT arrived at 5:45 a.m. and found Flecha dead inside the car, authorities said.

Flecha was driving his own car, but may have had stolen license plates on the vehicle, the Daily Camera reported.
