Here are the top stories today in Boulder:

  1. Louisville City Council paving way for residents to rebuild. The Louisville City Council approved an emergency rebuilding ordinance for Marshall Fire victims in hopes of fixing discrepancies in the existing construction codes. The order also provides additional flexibility for the adjustment board to approve variances on houses and lots that may not fit the code. (7News)
  2. School districts across the state are ditching mask mandates. Districts around the state have begun dropping mask requirements as public health departments have lifted their mandates. (CO Sun)
  3. Denver restaurants are moving to the suburbs because "Downtown Denver is dead." Suburbanites rejoice. Restaurant owners are making the transition from pricey downtown addresses and spreading their wings across metro Denver. Restaurateurs like Jeff Osaka, Alex Seidel and Juan Padro have announced new locations in Lakewood, Broomfield and Westminster. (Burlington Record)
  4. Trees planted in cities are sucking carbon out of the atmosphere. Two studies have found that city trees grow faster than country trees, and that soil in urban areas absorbs more carbon dioxide than previously thought. Bottomline: We can make cities more livable by planting more trees. (PHYS.ORG)
  5. It's a done deal. CDPHE sends Suncor's air quality permit to the EPA. Colorado Department of Health Department's permit requires Suncor's refinery to reduce emissions and increase transparency about its emissions. Community members and advocates disagree that the permit will actually protect the health of the public and the environment. (Patch)
