Here are the top stories in Boulder today:

  1. Can Boulder County bring its agricultural open space back from the brink? Much of Colorado is already semi-arid and nearly one thousand of Boulder's 16,000 agricultural acres is at risk. Boulder County is considering strategies to revive the land, but none of the solutions are easy. One idea under consideration is to switch out prairie dogs for beavers. (Reporting Lab)
  2. Natural foods company Cadia plants bigger flag in Boulder. The company opened a satellite office near 38th Street and Arapahoe eight years ago, but decided this year to expand their corporate footprint near the Boulder Farmers Market with a 10,000-square-foot office space. (Local Today)
  3. Iconic Wilson-Haertling house listed for sale. One of Boulder's most architecturally significant homes is available for sale for $1.995 million. The house, located at 550 College Ave. in the Geneva Park neighborhood, is a 2,550-square-foot architectural landmarked masterpiece. (Town Square)
  4. South Boulder street gets a safety upgrade. The City of Boulder has completed one of its Corridor Improvement Projects on Lehigh Street. Some of the upgrades includes the removal of the street's center turn lane, improved crossings and intersections, as well as resurfacing from Table Mesa to Galena. (Boulder)
  5. Colorado students can apply to colleges for free. From Oct. 18-20, application fees are waived to most of the state's colleges and universities as part of the Colorado's Free Application Days program. State officials expect 70,000 students to apply this year during the three-day period, that will wipe away $30-$50 application fees. (Chalkbeat)
