Struck With A Hammer; Pedestrian Hit-&-Run: Boulder Crime Blotter

DUI driver destroys streetlights; unruly hospital patient flings fan... and more.

BOULDER, CO -- -- These incidents were reported in the Boulder Police Blotter Jan. 19-24.

Jan. 24

A burglary was reported on the CU campus at 9:29 a.m. in the 1300 block of 30th St. An arrest was made.

Jan. 23

A burglary was reported at 7:58 a.m. in the 4200 block of Monroe Drive

A burglary was reported in the 2200 block of Mariposa Avenue at 7 p.m.

Jan . 22

A man reported he was sitting in the car of a woman he met at an unknown apartment complex on 29th Street when two men got into the vehicle and made some kind of an exchange with the woman. One of the men attempted to strike the victim in the head with a hammer but it was blocked by the victim's arm where he had some swelling and bruising. The victim got out of the car and fled on foot. There were no arrests.

Jan. 20

Police arrested a 21-year-old man after he was involved in a single car accident at Broadway and 16th Street. He drove off the road, hit an electrical box and a tree which caused the signal lights at that location to be out for most of the night. He was charged with DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

Officers were dispatched to Boulder Community Health after a security guard reported he was escorting a discharged patient out of the hospital when he threw a portable scale at the guard and spit in his face. The 37-year-old man was charged with Harassment.

A 26-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Foothills Parkway and Baseline Road. The vehicle, possibly a Ford Explorer, left the scene. The vehicle involved was later located and a possible person of interest was interviewed. The case is under investigation.

A burglary was reported at 9:57 a.m. in the 1700 block of 38th Street.

Jan. 19

A burglary in progress was reported at 1:04 p.m. in the 4800 block of Thunderbird Circle.

These incidents represent a portion of the police calls that took place on the specified dates. Under the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, departments have discretion in releasing police incident reports. Because some reports are for alleged felonies, they are still under investigation.
