Tuesday Smoke, Pollution Forecast For Front Range

Public health officials have released a pollution forecast for Boulder County and Denver's metro area.

Smoke is continuing to flow into metro Denver and Boulder from the Cameron Peak, CalWood and Lefthand Canyon wildfires, and another action day alert has been issued for the Front Range, public health officials said.

Fine particulate matter concentrations from the smoke are expected to be in the 'good' to 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' categories on Tuesday, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

"Lesser, but moderate, amounts of smoke can be found below these fires along the Front Range Urban Corridor, particularly from Ft. Collins southward to Loveland, Longmont, and Boulder," the agency said in an air quality advisory.

"Depending on wildfire activity, smoke may increase across sections of the I-25 corridor Tuesday afternoon, with the best chance for smoke impacts from Ft. Collins southward to Boulder."

Visibility along the Front Range is expected to be in the 'moderate' to 'poor' categories Tuesday, public health officials said.

"People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion," the advisory read.

Ozone concentrations in metro Denver and Boulder are expected to be in the 'good' category.

Carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide levels will remain in the 'good' category on Tuesday, health officials said.
