"Be prepared for the sharp change in temperatures and dress warmly in several layers of clothing," the alert read.

Some city roadways that have been blocked off for business expansion may reopen for plows, officials warned.

Up to a foot of snow could fall onto the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome fires. Fire officials said crews are hopeful that the snow storm will help them battle the wildfires, but that they aren't relying on the weather. Over the summer, weather was expected to help crews multiple times in Colorado, but wildfires proved too strong, fire officials said.

The Front Range winter storm warning includes Denver, Aurora, Boulder, Arvada, Golden, Lakewood, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Longmont, Brighton, Fort Collins and other cities.
