This change reduced the amount coming from Great Western Reservoir by 35%.
August 22, 2020
Reducing the unpleasant odors continues to be a priority for Public Works. Monday morning, we started switching the sources of supply for the reclaimed water system. This change reduced the amount coming from Great Western Reservoir by 35%. The alternate supply was increased again Monday morning which further reduced Great Western Reservoir supplies to 70% as compared to this past weekend. Since the foul water remains in the reclaimed distribution pipes, continued irrigation is necessary to flush the odors out of the system.

Second, we are continuing to add odor treatment chemicals to the reclaimed water entering the system. Third, we are looking at treatment options for the remaining water in Great Western Reservoir to reduce the odors from the algae bloom and into the reclaimed system. Lastly, we limit irrigation of parks to the minimum levels that will keep vegetation alive. These steps should continue to reduce the strength of the odors and noticeable improvements should occur over the next two to three days.
