City And County Of Broomfield: Water Main Repair Update

Jan. 15, 3 p.m. Update: The Water main break at the South Side of 120th ave. has been repaired and all businesses have had water service restored. The Eastbound lane of 120th will reopen this afternoon once crews complete backfill.

Public Works responded to a reported water main break yesterday afternoon (Jan. 14) located on the south side of 120th Ave. near Ash St. To minimize impacts to the local businesses and rush hour traffic, repair crews closed one eastbound lane of 120th Ave. and started excavating to access the area needed for repair at 6 p.m., shutting off water service at 9 p.m. 

Typical water main breaks take 6 to 8 hours to isolate, repair, and return service. Due to other underground utilities in the vicinity of the break, repairs are taking longer than expected. Since the water main break has not been fully exposed, additional contract services have been called in to assist public works crews. Estimated repairs will take another 4 to 6 hours to complete (as of 8 a.m. on Jan. 15).

The eastbound lane of 120th Ave. will remain closed and impacted water service customers are being notified. An update on the progress of the repair will be provided in the afternoon of Jan. 15 or sooner if water service is restored before then. While repairs are being made, several businesses located on the south side of 120th Ave. between Greenway Park and Wonderland Brewery will be impacted and without water service. These businesses include:

• Great Western Bank
• Wonderland Brewery
• Auto Zone
• Express Car Wash
• 3D Vision Eye Care
• Willow Run Feed and Supply
• State Farm Insurance Office Building
