FRIENDS Of Broomfield Wins $7K Grant For Jobs Program

BROOMFIELD, CO -- FRIENDS of Broomfield, a day-program and support organization for people with developmental disabilities won a $7,000 grant from First Western Trust-Boulder as part of the #WealthIsAbout grant program. The Boulder-area branch of First Western sought applications from local non-profits that supported what the bank called "our three pillars of philanthropy: Economic development, the arts and women and girls."

The grant will support FRIENDS of Broomfield's Supported Employment program. FRIENDS assists clients with finding jobs they will enjoy, providing support with job development, job searching, the interview process, and on the job training and support, according to their website. The program currently has 17 people in their supported employment program 14 of whom are currently employed, a statement from FRIENDS of Broomfield said. Three more people are seeking work. The goal for these developmentally disabled adults is to "foster independence and social interaction" while on the job site.

Sixteen local non-profit organizations applied for the grants, which involved an internet voting contest followed by a proposal for the top three winners.
