Guns, Ammo Accepted For Destruction At Broomfield Police Dept.

Broomfield residents can safely bring weapons and ammunition to the police department for destruction, police said in a statement.

BROOMFIELD, CO -- Broomfield police want you to know that local residents can get rid of unwanted guns and ammunition at the Broomfield Police Department.

"We want to apologize for some misinformation we put out to the public recently and we want to take an opportunity to let our citizens know we have always accepted, for destruction, weapons owned by Broomfield citizens," the Broomfield police posted on social media. "This service provides the owners of unwanted firearms or other weapons a safe and convenient method to dispose of their weapons for legal destruction."

Citizens can bring unwanted weapons and ammo to the police department offices, or have an officer respond to their home or business within Broomfield city limits, the police statement said.

Larger amounts of ammunition or items such as black powder will be referred to one of the local bomb disposal units, police said.
