Here are the top stories today in Colorado Springs:
- Vandalism continues to be a problem at parks across Colorado Springs and the city is asking for everyone's help to find the people responsible. Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers initially offered a $1,000 reward, but local man "Hiking Bob" has now doubled the reward to $2,000. Colorado Springs currently has crews cleaning up new graffiti every day, and park restrooms are becoming a popular target. Vandals recently hit Cottonwood Creek Park and the Veterans Memorial at Memorial Park. (KKTV 11 News)
- The Colorado Springs Police Department is on the hunt for the person who broke into several local businesses. Early on Friday morning, a man broke into Cafe Red Point, Nightingale Bread, Lincoln Street Barber Shop, and Building Three Coffee. In a surveillance video at Cafe Red Point, the suspect is seen using a rock to shatter the business' sliding glass door, then attempting to remove the business' safe. After several attempts to remove the bolted-down safe, he was forced to leave empty-handed. Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call the CSPD. (FOX21News.com)
- As the Colorado Springs Marathon kicks off this morning, residents can expect road closures in downtown Colorado Springs, as well as along portions of the Pikes Peak Greenway. (FOX21News.com)
- An "improvised pyrotechnic device" and multiple guns were located as Colorado Springs officers recovered a stolen vehicle and made an arrest. (KKTV 11 News)
- The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo credits generous donors with contributing $12 million to support a variety of zoo improvements — but with a goal of $13.5 million, zoo representatives are still hoping to make the final push. (KRDO)
