Ballots Mailed Out + New COVID-19 Data + 'Motorless Morning'

Hey, people of Colorado Springs! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Colorado Springs Daily.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top stories in Colorado Springs today:

  1. Ballots are being mailed out to El Paso County voters today for the 2021 coordinated election. Nov. 2 is a coordinated election that focuses on school board races, municipalities, tax and finance questions, and more. There are 38 ballot drop box locations around El Paso County. Oct. 22 is the recommended last day to return your ballot by mail. (KKTV 11 News)
  2. Local data shows the current leading cause of death in El Paso County is COVID-19. Since the state began monitoring data in March 2020, 1,027 people have passed away from the virus. The other causes of death are accidental deaths, natural deaths, and homicides. (KRDO)
  3. The Pikes Peak Library District is struggling to hire employees, leading them to reduce weekday operations in eight of their 16 locations. (KRDO)
  4. The City of Colorado Springs' Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department is hosting a 'Motorless Morning' in Garden of the Gods Park on Saturday, Oct. 9. The special event will eliminate motor vehicle access within the park from 5 a.m.- noon. (FOX21News.com)
  5. According to a clerk, two men wearing "creepy" black and white masks barged into a Circle K at Academy and Maizeland just before 3 a.m. Thursday pointing guns and demanding cigarettes. (KKTV 11 News)
