Burning Car Had Bomb, Dead Body Inside: Colorado Springs Cops

Police responded to an early morning call of a carfire near the intersection of West Cimarron and Sahwatch Streets.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- A man's body was found inside a burning car around 1 a.m. in a parking lot near the intersection of West Cimarron Street and Sahwatch Street Tuesday morning. when fire fighters came and extinguished the blaze, officers saw a body inside the car.

The body was determined to be a man, and he had shot himself, said Lt. Harold Black, Colorado Springs PD's public information officer. Police also found an "explosive device" in the car, and the Metro Bomb Unit was summoned to detonate the bomb Tuesday morning, Black said.

The fire is not thought to be related to the alleged bomb, police said.

The Colorado Springs PD's Violent Crimes Section will continue the investigation, which is ongoing.

Police said they believed there is no threat to the community at this time.
