Colorado Springs Named A Finalist In International Smart Cities Readiness Challenge

The City of Colorado Springs has been named one of ten finalists (link is external) in an international Smart Cities Readiness Challenge by the Smart Cities Council. Cities helping cities is the theme. Finalists participate in Smart Cities Week while winners get to participate in a Readiness Workshop to accelerate projects and collaborate with cities around the world seeking similar information to solve common problems.

“Colorado Springs has several great smart cities projects in the works, and we’re excited about the opportunity to potentially collaborate with the Smart Cities Council to accelerate our projects,” said Josh Handley, City of Colorado Springs Office Innovation Manager.

“Winning the Smart Cities Challenge could help us roll out the next phase of SmartCOS and advance these programs in a way that helps other cities to learn from our experience,” said Jillian Jaeger, Analyst with the Office of Innovation and lead on the initiative.

The City of Colorado Springs’s SmartCOS program submitted several projects (link is external) that are ready, or near ready, for implementation that will make Colorado Springs more sustainable and secure, enhance quality of life, and improve clean air and energy resilience. The projects Colorado Springs submitted to the challenge are Smart Street Lighting; Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan; Smart Waste; Microgrid Plan; Smart Building Management System; Digital Road Infrastructure Management System; and Smart Kiosks.
