Colorado Springs Section Of Palmer : Mesa Trail Closed For Construction Through September

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department will begin improvements on a segment of the Palmer-Mesa Trail on Monday, Aug. 3. The trail segment, located parallel to 30th Street, will be closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to last through the end of September, construction and weather dependent. Due to site constraints, there is not an available detour, however, the Foothills Trail, Blair Bridge Open Space and the Foothills Trail underpass with access to 30th Street will remain open.

Deteriorating asphalt on the trail will be replaced with a 10-foot wide concrete trail. The segment is approximately 1,300 feet long. An additional 155-foot asphalt segment parallel to Mesa Avenue will be replaced with concrete later this month. A detour will be available for that section when construction begins on Aug. 21.

This is one of several trail improvements to be funded by voter-approved 2B, which allowed the City to retain $7 million in excess 2018 TABOR revenue for specific park projects. Work was completed on a section of the Shooks Run Trail in July and improvements are also planned for the Homestead and Sand Creek trails later this year.
