Here are the top three stories today in Colorado Springs:
- Organizers of a ballot initiative are now collecting signatures to allow recreational marijuana sales in Colorado Springs. The collection is the next phase in the process after the City Title Board accepted the organizer's petition. Your Choice Colorado Springs group now has ninety days to collect the required 33,000 signatures. (Westword)
- The Department of Veterans Affairs has recommended closing several medical centers in Southern Colorado. The recommendations are part of a plan to modernize medical facilities for veterans across the country. The plan recommends a new stand-alone Community Living Center near Colorado Springs which will house the nursing home services as they are shut down in other parts of Colorado. (FOX21News.com)
- El Paso County Sheriff's Office is burning branches and excess vegetation as part of its wildfire mitigation initiative. The County's Wildland Fire Crew has been spending the last three days conducting the operation and they are currently seeking volunteers to assist. The burning will not spread due to snow covering the ground. (KRDO)
