🌱 E-Scooters Are Taking Over + County Traffic Enforcements

Your five-minute guide to all things happening today in Colorado Springs.

Morning, Colorado Springs! Here's everything you need to know to get this Thursday started off right. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 59 Low: 38.

Here are the top stories today in Colorado Springs:

  1. In the three weeks since Colorado Springs' e-scooter program launched, those green and silver minibikes have taken over the city. The scooters have proved overwhelmingly popular, just as city officials hoped when they decided to test the waters with a one-year trial program. But with the scooters' growing popularity comes a growing list of complaints. The city tells 11 News it's received roughly 200 complaints so far — though most, it notes, have come from the same few people. The main issue recurring with scooters is that most riders are discarding them wherever they please, versus doing what they are supposed to do and parking them at the designated parking spaces. (KKTV 11 News)
  2. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has launched additional traffic enforcement efforts in light of two grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These grants will fund the purchase of traffic enforcement equipment, such as adding Light Detection and Ranging devices for the Sheriff's Office toolbox for speed tracking and enforcement. El Paso County infamously is the state's leader in motor vehicle crash fatalities. (FOX21News.com)
  3. More information became available Tuesday about a plan to build the city's tallest building on the southwest corner of downtown. (KRDO)
  4. On Saturday Oct. 30, Fright Night on the Riverwalk is bringing local businesses and first responders together as they hand out candy to the community. (FOX21News.com)
  5. The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum will host Fright Night at the "BOO!seum" from Oct. 29-31. Families are invited to spend their Halloween weekend at the museum where kids in costumes can get in free! (KRDO)
