El Pueblo Museum Hosts Talks On Gentrification

Activist Andrea Merida to speak on "Dispossession in the Borderlands"

From El Pueblo History Museum: El Pueblo History Museum will host activist Andrea Merida as part of its Borderlands of Southern Colorado lecture series on Wednesday, November 14, at 6 pm at 301 N. Union Avenue.

Merida's talk, "Dispossession in the Borderlands," will cover the deep and broad roots of gentrification in the Southwest. With the introduction of H.R.6365—the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo Land Claims Act of 2018—in the House of Representatives, a new call for an exploration of the methods of colonization is arising. Merida will draw correlations between the events surrounding Guadalupe Hidalgo and the current tenor of how gentrification impacts the descendants of the original indigenous people to this day.

Coffee and biscochitos will be served at 6 pm. The lecture will begin at 6:30 pm.
