Escaped Canon City Inmate Captured After 2 Nights Outside
Robert Roberts, 22, slipped away from the minimum-security Skyline Correctional Center in Canon City and was on the lam for two days.

CANON CITY, CO -- Escaped Skyline Correctional Center inmate Robert Roberts, 22, spent two nights on the lam just outside Canon City near the Parkdale Quarry, until he was captured again Tuesday, Colorado Department of Corrections said in a statement.
Roberts was convicted of forgery in Fremont County and sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was scheduled to be released July 23.
But he managed to escape Sunday afternoon and was unaccounted for at the noon prisoner count, the DOC said in a press release. Skyline is one of three Colorado minimum-security prison facilities.

Roberts was described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing dark green inmate clothing and police believed he was on foot near the river between Mackenzie Avenue and Pathfinder Park, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
He was caught near the quarry by members of the Colorado Department of Correction’s Escape Team and local law enforcement officers, a CDOC statement said. During the search, electronic highways signs advised drivers not to pick up hitchhikers.
