Here are the top stories today in Colorado Springs:
- Hyatt Place on Friday became the latest hotel to open in downtown Colorado Springs. It's the third new hotel in the city's center in just over two years. The Hyatt Place includes a 29-space valet parking area with mechanical lifts to store two levels of vehicles, a 1,100-square-foot retail space on the first floor that likely will become a coffee shop early next year, a lobby and dining area, meeting rooms, fitness center, a pool and hot tub on the second floor and guest rooms with couches that convert into extra beds on the third through seventh floors. - The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department rededicated the historic gazebo in Alamo Square Park on Monday, Nov. 1 in honor of Colorado Springs's sesquicentennial celebration. City Forestry planted the final City tree, the American linden, in the COS 150: Tree Challenge, donated by Leadership Pikes Peak and planted in in the park. The Tree Challenge was a nod to the city's tree legacy during its sesquicentennial year and encouraged community members to plant trees across the city. (FOX21News.com)
- Two men threatened a store clerk before stealing cash from the business early Tuesday morning. Officers along with a police dog searched the area but weren't able to find the two men. The robbery was reported at a business in the 2800 block of Briargate Boulevard. (KKTV 11 News)
- Simply Kids Dental in Colorado Springs is doing a Halloween Candy Buy Back program, geared towards protecting kids' teeth by buying back Halloween candy and paying them for it. (FOX21News.com)
- A cluster of seven mailboxes in Colorado Springs were broken into and vandalized, leaving residents concerned. (KKTV 11 News)
