Here are the top three stories in Colorado Springs today:
- The Colorado Springs Planning Commission has officially approved the building of a new 251-unit apartment complex in the Summerfield neighborhood, despite pushback from the community. The decision was made after the commission heard four hours of testimony opposing the construction. Opponents of the new apartment building are worried that the complex will increase traffic pressure on a nearby middle school. (Colorado Springs Gazette)
- The Colorado Springs Fire Department successfully extinguished a brush fire along Interstate 25 on Friday afternoon. The department evacuated nearby residents while battling the blaze. The National Weather Service continues to warn of fire weather in the Colorado Springs area. (Colorado Springs Patch)
- Yesterday, we reported on the trial of Xinan Xia. Today, the 5-year-old massage parlor owner has been found guilty of operating a place of prostitution. Xia was arrested in December after the Colorado Springs Police Department conducted a months-long investigation. The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office tried the case during a jury trial.
