COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Colorado Springs police are searching for a suspect in the Dec. 27 shooting at a Kmart parking lot that killed a Manitou Springs man. Police issued a warrant and charged Michael Joseph Parkhurst II, 23, with first degree murder. Parkhurst has not been taken into custody.
Around 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27, Colorado Springs police found Cory Forbush, 23, wounded in the parking lot of the Kmart in the 3000 block of North Nevada Avenue. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
According to affidavit details released Friday by Channel 13, Forbush's brother told investigators the two were driving to McDonalds when Cory made a detour into the Kmart parking lot after speaking on the phone with an unknown person. The brother told police Cory took a gun from his truck and then walked to another car in the Kmart parking lot. The brother told police he "saw shots fired from the other vehicle. As the suspect vehicle was speeding away, Cory stumbled over to the passenger side of the truck and collapsed," according to Channel 13.
