Man Fatally Shot By Colorado Springs Police
The El Paso Co. Sheriff's office will be investigating a Dec. 2 incident where a man was killed as police attempted to take him into custody

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- An unidentified man who reportedly drew a handgun while resisting arrest was fatally shot by Colorado Springs police officer Dec. 2, according to a statement by the El Paso Sheriff's office. Around 6 p.m. Saturday, officers from the Springs police stopped a man near the intersection of South Nevada Avenue and East Navajo Street. The suspect reportedly had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, and the officers attempted to take him into custody, the sheriff's department said in a statement Sunday.
According to the sheriff's statement, the man "resisted the officers and engaged them in a fight. At some point during the fight the suspect drew a handgun and was shot." He was transported to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, the statement said.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine paid administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy. The name of the victim was not released because family members had not been notified. The El Paso Co. Coroner will be releasing the name of the shooting victim.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) will be investigating the incident as an officer-involved shooting,the statement said.
"Once the El Paso County Sheriff's Office completes our investigation into the officer involved shooting, it will be given to the District Attorney’s Office for review," the sheriff's office statement said.
