Man Shot In Alley, Stolen Car With Drugs: Colo. Springs Blotter

Sex offenders jailed and freed, mystery driver steals wallet, violent texts lead to domestic arrest, juvenile reports rape.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- The following items appeared in the Colorado Springs police blotter between Feb. 26- March 2. These incidents represent only a portion of calls to which the police responded. Any person named as arrested is not-guilty until proved so in a court of law.

Freed sex offender back in jail. Michael McFadden, 46, is back in jail. McFadden made national headlines after he was released on a technicality after being sentenced to more than 300 years in prison for sex assault on six children. Colorado Springs Police re-arrested Mcfadden at the El Paso County Citizen’s Service Center around 4:30 p.m. after he was released from the Colorado Department of Corrections in Grand Junction. His 2015 conviction for sexual assault on a child was overturned, but McFadden had another open warrant for an earlier sexual assault on a child conviction which required him to register as a sex offender. McFadden was booked into the El Paso County Jail.

Alleged burglar resists arrest. Police were notified of a burglary-in-progress in the 100 block of Cascade Court around 6:30 p.m. The suspect, Christine Adams, 50, had allegedly broken out windows in an attempt to enter the residence. Adams left the location on foot, but officers found her in an alley nearby. They called to her, and she reportedly ignored them. When officers tried to takeover into custody, she resisted arrested and punched an officer, police said. Adams was arrested and face charges for attempted burglary, criminal mischief, second-degree assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Feb. 28

Mystery driver demands wallet, shoots man. Around 11:15 p.m. officers were summoned to Grassy and Frisco Courts to investigate reports of a shooting. They found a male victim who had a gunshot wound to his lower left leg. The man who had been shot told police he had been driving in the area and he believed he was being followed by a driver in a silver or white sedan. He told police he pulled to the side of the road on Grassy Court and the sedan also pulled over. The man told police he and the driver of the other car both got out of their vehicles and the male driver of the other car pulled a gun, pointed it at the man and demanded the man's wallet. When he did not hand over his wallet, the other man shot him in the leg, he told police. The shooter was described as a white male wearing a blue jacket. The man was taken to a local hospital and treated for serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Woman robbed in parking lot. A woman told police she was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1600 block of North Murray Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. She told police she was walking from her car toward her apartment when two men approached her, one displaying a gun. She told police the men who robbed her were black males in their 20s both wearing hoodies, police said. A K9 search and neighborhood canvas did not produce any leads. The case is still under investigation.

Juvenile says she was sexually assaulted. Officers investigating a car accident in the 3600 block of East Uintah Street when a juvenile girl at the scene told police she had been sexually assaulted by a 20-year-old man the night before. Detectives with the Special Victims Section, Crimes Against Children Unit were notified, and are presently assisting with the follow up investigation. The man was arrested.

Sexually Violent Predator notification. Christoper James McGough, 28, categorized as a Sexually Violent Predator, was registered as homeless in the area of the Springs Rescue Mission in the first block of West Las Vegas Street, Colorado Springs Police announced. According to Colorado law, the local law enforcement agency must announce any SVP in the area to neighbors and local patrol agencies.

Man with gun tasered, arrested. Around 6 a.m., Colorado Springs officers came to assist plain-clothes investigators from another law enforcement agency who were gathered in the 4100 block of Edwinstow Avenue. An unknown man with a handgun confronted officers, who identified themselves as police officers, but the man continued to behave menacingly, police reported. An unspecified officer tasered the man, who fled into the house with the handgun. SWAT officers were summoned, and Colorado Springs police ordered all residents of the house to come outside. Four people left the house and were taken into custody. The man who had been tasered was served and released with a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice. A fifth person left the building and was found to have an outstanding warrant.

Bullet holes and shot casings, but no witnesses. Officers were summoned around 2:40 a.m. to the 2300 block of Lexington Village Ln to respond to a shots fired call. "Officers arrived on scene and located numerous bullet holes in an apartment located in this area. Officers also located several shell casings in the street in front of the apartment," according to police. However, no neighbors had any information or vehicle descriptions. Two people were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Feb. 27

Man shot in alley. Police were called around 9:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1300 block of North Circle Drive. They found a man in the alley with a gunshot wound in the leg. He said he did not know the person who shot him. The man was taken to a local hospital where his wounds were declared non life-threatening.

Stolen car loaded with drugs. Around 2 a.m., an officer stopped a car near North Academy Boulevard and North Carefree Circle when license plates checked out to have been from a stolen vehicle, police said. The driver, Sandra Wielgorecki, was arrested and faced charges of motor vehicle theft. Officers recovered narcotics, methamphetamines and heroin from the stolen car, police said.

Feb. 26

Text messages and gun threats lead to domestic violence arrest. Police were summoned to a motel in the 4300 block of North Nevada Avenue to investigate a domestic disturbance. Officers recognized the location as a place where El Paso County sheriff's officers had answered a call a few days ago in an incident where a man had allegedly fired round from a handgun. One person told police the man who had fired the gun had been sending text messages and the two had argued. While police were interviewing the person, several text messages came in to the victim's phone mentioning weapons. Officers were able to locate the texter with the help of the Gold Hill division. John Arnold, 39, was was taken into custody without incident, police said.

"This showed great teamwork and communications between the two divisions," the Colorado State Police communications department said in a report.

These incidents represent a portion of the police calls that took place on the specified dates. Under the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, departments have discretion in releasing police incident reports. Because some reports are for alleged felonies, they are still under investigation and are often not reported to media.
