Pikes Peak Crews To Work At 14K Feet Through The Winter

Winter is quickly approaching, but construction crews working on the summit of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain don’t plan to let the harsh winter weather at 14,000 feet slow them down.

The structural steel installations for the frame and detail roof are nearly complete. In the next four to eight weeks they will finish installing concrete on the roof and floor inside the building. Temporary windows will allow crews to work on several areas inside the complex during the winter. All remaining exterior activities will be completed next season when the weather warms up again.

A 14,000-foot thank you to everyone who has contributed to the My Mountain fundraising campaign so far. Thanks to your generosity, we are nearing our goal for this final phase of fundraising.

About the Summit Complex

The 38,000 square foot complex will live up to the mountain’s reputation. Glass, concrete, and steel are being used to take full advantage of the scenic beauty at the top. The building will use solar energy and materials sourced from environmentally responsible companies. All of the pre-fabricated components being used meet and exceed green, sustainable certifications. Seasoned truck drivers haul the pieces up the Pikes Peak Highway. At the summit, trained workers put the LEGO-like components in place.
