Pot Worth 425K Seized In Illegal Grow Bust: El Paso Co. Sheriff

Two men were arrested near Peyton when a search warrant revealed 500 illegal marijuana plants, the El Paso County Sheriff said.

PEYTON, CO -- An illegal marijuana grow bust in rural Peyton recovered pot with a street value of more than $425,000, the El Paso Sheriff's Office announced.

On Friday, a search warrant was issued for an address in the 16000 block of Jones Road, a statement from the sheriff's office said. Members of the El Paso County Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence, the Office Rural Enforcement Outreach Unit and a SWAT team searched the property.

Thirteen pounds of processed marijuana was recovered, plus more than 500 marijuana plants "in various stages of growth." Officers arrested Antonio Lazaro Moreno, 35, and Armando Javier Vega, 42 on illegal marijuana charges.

"The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continues its efforts to aggressively go after those who are involved in the marijuana Black-Market and illegal marijuana grows," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

So far in April, 2018 the team has executed 10 search warrants, seizing 300 lbs of processed illegal marijuana and more than 1,000 plants, a statement said.
