Good morning, Colorado Springs! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to celebrate Memorial Day, so you won't see a newsletter in your inbox on Monday morning. We will be back on Tuesday with your next update, but in the meantime, here's what's happening around town this holiday weekend.


First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and breezy. High: 83 Low: 55.


Here are the top three stories in Colorado Springs today:

  1. Reservations are required to drive to the top of Pikes Peak. The reservations are required due to increased demand and a significant rise in the city's population. According to the city, Colorado Springs' population has grown by 73.84 percent since 1991. The reservation system will hopefully preserve the mountain's beauty for future generations. (KOAA News 5)
  2. El Paso County Search and Rescue team has a new crew member - a Labrador Retriever named Roux. She is a 9-month-old puppy that is learning to locate missing people on area trails and mountains. Click to meet this adorable puppy with an important job. (KKTV)
  3. North Cheyenne Canyon Road will reopen on Jun. 4. The road has been closed since Sept. 2021 for reconstruction work on its three bridges. The North Cheyenne Canon Park is working on completing other projects within the park and is asking guests to be patient and obey flaggers. (KKTV)
