🌱 Scammer Promised 'All-Inclusive' Weddings + Homeless Program

Here are the top stories in Colorado Springs today:

  1. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a local man promised dozens of people that he could provide "all-inclusive wedding services" at a property in Black Forest, but instead kept the money and provided nothing. Richard Reynolds, 42, was arrested on Wednesday for sixteen felony charges related to the scheme, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. In total, a detective had identified 40 victims who were scammed by Reynolds. Investigators say Reynolds obtained more than $260,000 in the scheme. (KRDO)
  2. The Salvation Army Colorado Springs has announced three new Grants Per Diem (GPD) housing models for homeless veterans in Colorado Springs. According to the organization, the Salvation Army's current program ranks in the top two most effective programs in Colorado, yielding 31 veterans graduating the program and obtaining permanent housing and self-sufficiency. The GPD program provides transitional housing and supportive services to increase the skill levels and income of veterans who are experiencing homelessness and helps them obtain permanent housing and independence.   3. With wildfire season now yearlong, the Colorado Springs Fire Department is finding new ways to mitigate the problem and prevent tragedy. (KRDO)
  4. Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity had to adjust their cost of building homes from $160,000 to $240,000. (KOAA.com Colorado Springs and Pueblo News)
  5. On Tuesday, Oct. 26, the Colorado Springs City Council unanimously voted to acquire 343 acres of open space known as Fishers Canyon. (KOAA.com Colorado Springs and Pueblo News)
