🌱Several Clinics For Child Vaccinations + Wildfire Mitigation

The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing around town today.

Happy Saturday, neighbors! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 74 Low: 46.

Here are the top stories today in Colorado Springs:

  1. As of 3 p.m. Friday, Children's Hospital Colorado Springs kicked off the first of several vaccination clinics for children 5 to 11 years old in Southern Colorado. The Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine allowed to be administered to this age group. Upon receiving the go-ahead from both the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, the state announced vaccinations clinic locations around parts of Colorado. This includes El Paso and Pueblo counties. (KRDO)
  2. Public safety measures did well on ballots in Southern Colorado, including one setting aside $20 million dollars for expanding wildfire mitigation in Colorado Springs. In a unique plan the sum will be invested, with interest supplementing mitigation programs, but the dollars do more than increase the current budget. Added value comes from leveraging the money. It can be used to secure grants requiring match dollars. There is potential as well, for sharing expenses with neighboring agencies also working to reduce wildfire risk. 3. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has earned accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) by demonstrating compliance with NCCHC's Standards for Health Services in Jails. (KKTV 11 News)
  4. Colorado Springs cracked the top 100 on the list of "Best Places to Retire in the U.S. in 2021-2022," ranking at number 86. Boulder ranked at 100 with Denver and Ft. Collins appearing later on the list. (CBS Denver)
  5. If your Halloween pumpkins are looking a bit worse for wear, bring them to the Pumpkin Smash Fest at The Flying Pig Farm in Manitou Springs to throw, stomp or smash them! (KOAA.com Colorado Springs and Pueblo News)
