Here's the latest on what's happening in Colorado Springs, delivered straight to your inbox — for free!

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Colorado Springs Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny; winds subsiding. High: 59 Low: 40.

Here are the top stories today in Colorado Springs:

  1. Southwest has cancelled nearly 2,000 flights since Friday. The impact is stacking up, causing crowds and chaos at many airports, including right here in Colorado. The airline blames 'disruptive weather' and air traffic control issues for canceling nearly a third of their schedule. Although the FAA attributes the disruptions to staffing and aircraft issues. No other airline has reported similar problems. (KKTV 11 News)
  2. The 30th Street Corridor Improvement Project team held a virtual meeting on Monday to give an overview of the improvements planned for access and safety around Garden of the Gods, including a proposed roundabout at the entrance on Gateway Rd. The project spans about two miles along 30th Street between Fontanero Street and Mesa Road. An exact date for the start of construction is still be worked out, but it's scheduled to be complete in late 2023. The public will still be able to access the Garden of the Gods during construction. (KKTV 11 News)
  3. Colorado Springs' parks and open spaces have been "loved to death" since the pandemic started and the city is one of ten hot spots selected nationwide to participate in this year's Leave No Trace program. (FOX21News.com)
  4. Recent damage inflicted by vandalism at Venezia Park will cost around $30,000 to repair. (KRDO)
  5. A former chef, Tony Rojas, who has been living in his van for 18 months with his wife after losing his job due to the pandemic, was gifted a food truck after a TikTok video went viral.(KRDO)
