Here are the top stories in Colorado Springs today:
- Colorado Springs is one step closer to deciding the fate of the Westside Community Center. The center has been a major resource for residents living in Old Colorado City for decades. The deadline for potential operators to submit proposals closed last Friday, and some neighbors continue to push for control of it. (KOAA.com Colorado Springs and Pueblo News)
- A cat didn't have to waste one of its nine lives thanks to an alert citizen and an animal law enforcement officer with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR)! This past weekend, the Animal Law Enforcement Team with HSPPR responded to a call about a cat that was stuck on a roof for about three days. An officer was able to get on the roof and make contact with the cat, which appeared both lethargic and terrified. The officer was able to safely remove the animal from the roof. (KKTV 11 News)
- COVID-19 pandemic hasn't slowed downtown building boom in Colorado Springs. During a Thursday meeting of the city's Planning Commission, city planning manager Ryan Tefertiller said that at least two dozen projects will have been completed, started, or be in various stages of development through 2026. - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a shooting is under investigation after a victim showed up at a nearby porch with a gunshot wound to his face Friday morning. (KRDO)
- As you get ready to cook for the holidays, Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) has an important reminder that could help you avoid a costly repair bill. Thursday, CSU held a demonstration to show the process crews go through if someone does not properly dispose of certain foods. (KKTV 11 News)
