Here are the top stories in Denver today:

  1. Is RTD's new rail proposal the solution to the NW Corridor Rail issue? The Regional Transportation District held an open house in Westminster to gather feedback on its latest commuter rail proposal, "Peak Service." The proposal aims to fulfill the promise of the 2004 Fastracks plan, which called for a rail line in the Northwest corridor, which includes Boulder and Longmont. (CBS4)
  2. Denver has had a surge in high-income renters. Denver has one of the largest populations of high-income renters in the country – those earning a minimum of $150,000 annually. The rise in unaffordable home prices across the U.S. has led to an increase in renters deciding not to buy, as shown by a RentCafe analysis of income and rental data, which reported a near doubling of renters earning that amount from 2015 to 2020. (FOX31)
  3. Denver's Fair Elections Fund provides candidates with a 9x match. What happens if the candidate loses, or with draws, do they have to give the money back.? Here's a deeper have to return unspent money or can they keep it? (Denverite)
  4. Denver mayor and his entourage traveling to Africa, spending nearly $110,000 on the junket. Mayor Michael Hancock is leading a delegation of city and metro area leaders to Egypt and Ethiopia this week at a cost $$107,567.56. The trip is an attempt to provided additional air service and economic development opportunities in Africa and is a part of Denver's Vision 100 plan to attract 100 million passengers annually to the DIA. (9News)
  5. Ouray's water problems could be other Colorado municipalities. The western slope town may soon become one of the costliest water sources in the state due to the need for a $12 million filtration system to remove impurities that have infiltrated its ancient spring. (CO Sun)
