Here are the top stories today in Denver:
- Arctic blast coming this Thursday with below zero temps and chance of snow. Cold temperatures are headed for the region this week. By Thursday, they're expected to fall below zero, for both the low and the high that day. (FOX31)
- New modular affordable homes arrive in Globeville Elyria-Swansea community with a little extra help from a crane. Brothers Redevelopment and the Globeville Elyria-Swansea Affordable Housing Collaborative built the spacious prefabricated townhomes that only cost $180,000. These are then sold to families in the neighborhood that are at risk of displacement due, in part, to gentrification. (Denverite)
- Western states using cloud seeding in hopes of refilling reservoirs. Cloud seeding typically involves loading up a plane with silver iodide flares. When the plane reaches an altitude where temperatures are ideal, the pilot shoots the flares into the cloud, which releases the silver iodide. This causes individual water droplets within the clouds to freeze together, forming snowflakes that eventually become so heavy that they fall. (CNBC)
- Colorado struggles to keep up with air pollution permits. The state's Air Pollution Control Division continues to fall further behind in when it comes to issuing permits that limit the pollutants companies can put into state air. This despite additional dollars pumped into the agency from state legislators in 2022. (CO Sun)
