Here are the top stories in Denver today:
- You can vote early and in-person during the 2022 election. There's nothing difficult about voting in Colorado. In fact, beginning today, a state-mandated number of drop boxes and voting centers must be available to voters. According to the Secretary of State's office: "voting in Colorado is accessible to all eligible voters, regardless of zip code." (Prime Time)
- East Colfax immigrant and refugee communities worry about being gentrified out of the neighborhood. Tensions between residents and developers on the East Colfax corridor continue to rise as some believe that East Colfax is one of the few remaining affordable areas left in Colorado. (Subscription/Denver Post)
- Colorado's delivery drivers pushing plan to unionize. Gig and self-employed drivers are working to unionize, and at the same time are pushing the State of Colorado to limit Uber, Lyft and other gig-driving company's profits. There's also a proposal to add a $2 per ride surcharge that would go to the driver. (Westword)
- Buying booze in Colorado will drastically change if all of these ballot items pass. The fight over the state's liquor laws go back even before prohibition. And small liquor stores have the most to lose. With three proposals on the ballot — propositions 124, 125 and 126 — it would open up those markets to chain liquor stores, national grocery stores. (CPR)
- Rental management companies accused of overcharging for rent. An algorithmic price-fixing scheme that has allegedly inflated rental prices is now a class-action lawsuit against some of the nation's largest landlords, including ones in Colorado. (FOX31)
